Holmes Beach is a city on Anna Maria Island with the city of Anna Maria to the north and Bradenton Beach to the south. This island is located in Manatee County in the Gulf of Mexico.
The city was named after Jack Holmes, a developer of a 600 acre community after World War II. In 1948, portions of “On an Island With You” film featuring Esther Williams, Peter Lawford, Ricardo Montalban, Jimmy Durante and Cyd Charisse was shot in what would become Holmes Beach. The city would be later incorporated in 1950.
The city draws many tourists from all over the world. People love the laid backed atmosphere, white sandy beaches, and blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There is excellent fishing in the waters surrounding Anna Maria Island.
