Venice is located on the Florida’s Gulf Coast in southern Sarasota County. The city is located south of Sarasota and north of Fort Myers. It is a quiet retirement community know for its beaches, offshore coral reef, laid-back atmosphere and fossilized shark teeth.

This city is known as the “Shark Tooth Capital of the World” as shark teeth are easily found along it’s beaches. Sharks produce 20,000 – 25,000 teeth over their life time. This coastal area sits on a 18-35 foot deep fossil layer. Waves, especially from storms, drive the teeth into the shallow waters and up on the beach.

The best places to find fossilized shark teeth are the beaches south of the Venice Jetty, including Casey Key and Manasota Key.
